Maria is the "wacky friend" of future world renowned scientist Liz, as she said in the pilot. She's been Liz' best friend forever and she's the first one, Liz tells about the secret. At first she's a little scared, but slowly it developes a on/off relationship between her and Michael. Her big dream is to be a famous singer. Since her father left her mother, she's living alone with her mom, Amy Deluca.
